SCHOLARSHIP Regulations - 2009/2010
IED Milano and IED Venezia are to assign 23 scholarships for the attendance of three-year and one-year post-secondary education courses for the academic year 2009/2010. Scholarships will be assigned following a merit awards competition which will be held from March 1st 2009, publication date of the herein regulations, to May 17th 2009.
1. Amounts and duration
Four scholarships covering the full tuition fee for the first year of course
Eight scholarships covering 50% of the tuition fee for the first year of course
Eight scholarships covering 30% of the tuition fee for the first year of course
One scholarship covering the full tuition fee for the course One Year Design Experience of IED Venice
Two scholarships covering 30% of the tuition fee for the course One Year Design Experience of IED Venice
Scholarships related to IED Milan courses will be tenable for three years, subject to the holder’s completion of all exams included in the course programme with average marks not inferior to 28/30. If the student fails to meet these conditions, the scholarship will not be renewed. In this case the scholarship’s holder may continue the course paying the full tuition fee (therefore without scholarship) or, otherwise, withdraw from it.
Scholarships related to courses organised by IED Venice will be tenable for one year.
Awarded students shall however pay the enrolment fee in its entirety.
The jury, thereof described in section 4, shall determine under a final and unappealable decision the number of actual scholarships to be awarded to applicants.
Scholarships are allocated to the four schools of IED Milan under the following criteria:
IED Arti Visive: 1 full scholarship, 2 partial scholarships covering 50% of the tuition fee, 4 partial scholarships covering 30% of the tuition fee
IED Design: 1 full scholarship, 2 partial scholarships covering 50% of the tuition fee, 1 partial scholarship covering 30% of the tuition fee.
IED Moda Lab: 1 full scholarship, 2 partial scholarships covering 50% of the tuition fee, 1 partial scholarship covering 30% of the tuition fee.
IED Comunicazione: 1 full scholarship, 2 partial scholarships covering 50% of the tuition fee, 2 partial scholarships covering 30% of the tuition fee.
2. Admission requirements
The awards are available to European and non-European citizens meeting the following requirements:
- being under 28 years old when submitting the application form;
- being a student on the last year of secondary school, or holding a secondary-school diploma.
People holding a diploma obtained at IED or at a similar higher education school, or students already enrolled in any course in any of IED premises, will not be admitted to the program.
IED staff members or collaborators will not be admitted to the selection either.
3. Deadlines, terms and conditions of application
Projects shall be submitted by e-mail to diariocreativo@ied.edu not later than May 17th 2009. The subject line shall include name, surname and title of the project.
The projects will be published, upon selection, on the website www.diariocreativo.com
In order to be published and take part in the competition projects have to conform to the format described in section 6, upon completion of the application form.
Incomplete projects, projects not following the standard themes or missing the information required as specified in the previous sections, projects including incorrect or illegible personal details or missing the set deadline of May 17th 2009 at 12 p.m. will be refused.
Other mandatory requirements the applicant complies with and is liable for when submitting the project are:
- the participant is the only creator of an original project which is neither forgery nor a piece of plagiarism;
- the project is not under any rights of ownership or use and does not infringe any copyright.
The jury shall, under final and unappealable decision, exclude from the competition projects which do not fulfil the requirements stated in this section.
IED Milan and IED Venice do not hold any responsibilities in case of any incident resulting in missed delivery of the projects, including electronic programs and devices malfunctioning.
Participants agree to the treatment of personal data under legislative decree 196 of 30 June 2003 and subsequent amendments and integrations, and understand the entitlement to assert the rights thereof in section 7 of the above-mentioned law as indicated in the information 13 of the legislative decree 196/03 attached to the application form.
The projects and material submitted will not be sent back and may be used by IED Milan and Venice freely, the applicant not being entitled any right to compensation or claim against IED.
Projects published on the website www.diariocreativo.com may be subjected to public comments, evaluations and voting, which will be collected exclusively for statistical purposes and will not have any consequence on the scholarships’ allocation procedure.
Submitting the projects applicants agree with the publication on the above-mentioned website.
Participants can only apply for one course and present a single project.
4. Evaluation and communication of scholarships’ allocation
The evaluation of projects will be carried out by a jury, composed of teaching and non-teaching staff of IED Milan and IED Venice. The selection is made under the jury’s under final and unappealable decision. The authors of the best projects will be called for an interview with IED staff.
IED will notify the scholarships’ winners by telephone or by e-mail. Within 3 days from the communication, the winners shall submit a formal acceptance letter to the e-mail address diariocreativo@ied.edu In case of non-acceptance within the above-mentioned terms, applicants will lose the allocated scholarship and the jury may award it to other participants under their final decision.
The winners will have 10 days to complete the enrolment process for the first year of course related to the allocated scholarship.
In case of non-acceptance the Direction may award the scholarship to another candidate.
5. Disputes
Should any dispute regarding the herein regulations and the competition emerge, an arbitrator nominated by common accord of the parties will be entrusted the decision. In case of disagreement in nominating the arbitrator, the president of Milan Chamber of Commerce industry and Craft Trade will be assigned the task. The arbitration will be set in Milan and will consist of amicable composition. The arbitrator will judge impartially and cross-examine within 120 days (one hundred twenty days). The parties shall commit themselves to carrying out the arbitrator’s decision, which is from here on in considered as the expression of their contractual will.
6. Projects themes and presentation format
The theme of the competition is:
YES, YOU CAN! Yes, you can definitely do it ! You have personal taste and the desire to change reality. Choose something you don’t like and feel like changing. Don’t just criticise, be creative and provide an alternative.
Each IED area is connected to a theme. Participants are asked to develop the theme related to the three-year course they are interested in.
IED Design: Interior Design, Product Design, Interior Design in lingua inglese, Product Design in lingua inglese.
INTERIOR DESIGN: submit the photograph of a space you don’t like and your design showing the change you suggest to make it better;
PRODUCT DESIGN:
Submit the photograph of an object you don’t like and your design showing the change you suggest to make it better;
IED Moda Lab: Fashion Design, Design del Gioiello, Fashion Communication, Fashion Marketing, Print and Textile Design, Urbanwear Design, Fashion Accessories and Shoe Design, Fashion Stylist.
DESIGN DEL GIOIELLO:
Candidates are asked to invent a creative re-interpretation of the concept of modern jewel, wristwatch and spectacles. Starting from a search of images, create at least 3 drafts and a short presentation of the products you designed.
FASHION MARKETING:
Participants are asked to propose the launch of a new fashion brand. In particular, they have to define the name and characteristic of the new brand, the product, consumers’ benefits and the price level. They also have to suggest a plan for the launch, distribution and communication of the new brand. The project has to be illustrated by a minimum of 4 images.
FASHION COMMUNICATION:
Applicants have to revise the communication plan of their favourite brand suggesting new strategies and new communication tools, without straying from brand identity. The project has to be illustrated by a minimum of 4 explanatory images and a written presentation no longer than 4000 characters.
FASHION STYLIST:
Applicants have to carry out a restyling of their favourite fashion brand’s advertising campaign, suggesting new ideas for more effective and contemporary communication without straying from brand identity. The project has to be illustrated by a minimum of 6 explanatory images and a written presentation no longer than 2000 characters.
FASHION DESIGN - URBANWEAR DESIGN - FASHION ACCESSORIES AND SHOE DESIGN- PRINT AND TEXTILE DESIGN
Even if you cannot hold a pencil or sew a button on, find a personal and clever way to explain what is in your mind to someone who doesn’t know you. A t-shirt, a sweater, one item of a pair of sneakers or flat pumps, a handbag.
Choose one of these pieces of everyday garments and re-create it in order to represent your style and your vision of the world.

Submit a drawing which represents your style and personality traits, and a second one which describes, even ironically, how you would like to be;
MEDIA DESIGN:
Submit a digital project (the homepage of a website, the display of a cellular phone, etc) which can show who you are and a second one telling us what you would like to change;
CG ANIMATION:
Create a character which resembles you and will become 3D: submit a draft describing how it looks now and a second one telling us what it will become;
VIDEO DESIGN: REGIA A PERFORMING VIDEO
Submit a video which represents your style and personality traits, and a second one which describes, even ironically, how you would like to be;
SOUND DESIGN:
Submit an audio track which represents your style and personality traits, and a second one which describes, even ironically, how you would like to be.
IED Venice: One Year Design Experience.
Brief: Design a hat out of time, a crazy hat, a conventional or invisible one… A hat which sees time, fashions and habits pass by. A hat embodying single ideas and also collective representations.
Presentation of projects:

- The title of the project
- A description of the project in a document no longer than 600 characters
- A minimum of four images or drawings or photographs which illustrate the project
*Digital images must be in jpeg, 72dpi and 1000 pixels wide.
OPTIONAL: Audio and video files no longer than 60 seconds
